3 Story Software is usually described as a vendor management system (VMS). That means customers use the product to procure and manage people (or teams) who are contractors (temps), project teams, or even suppliers to whom customers outsource work.

Like other leading VMS products our product supports an extended end-to-end workflow (see below). We take the initial request (project) in draft or RFx form, get it approved online (if necessary), route the project to the right set of suppliers, award the project to a worker (or team), and track costs and performance.

The interesting part of our product is it can be used to manage contractors (temps), from a hundred to many thousand, manage project teams doing milestone/SOW, task, or continuous services, and even manage permanent recruitment for full-time hiring. This unified system gives management one place to see all workforce activities, leverage their supply chain, and have a single collaboration point for all users.

Most importantly we do a great job of tracking costs. We have a great invention inside with mapping costs into the future, doing accruals, and alerting when costs are overdue. We do a lot of interesting things with pricing, like manage complicated rate cards, markup schedules; we have automation for giving raises at various tenure points; reducing markups (lowering rates) after statutory limits have been met and measuring cost savings by location, department, and many other approaches.

Our management information covers dashboards, graphical reports, aggregate and detail reports, and we have an easy-to-use ad hoc reporting engine — very popular with line managers, who can create their own reports and share them with colleagues.
